In Martha's experience, "The world can change in a minute, and at the same time remain unchanged" (165). What's a time in your life when your world changed in a moment? What changed, and how did you respond? Tell us a bit of your story using specific details to help your writing come alive. If Martha's experience is represented by a jar of ocean water, what tangible object would represent your life-changing minute."

In Martha's experience, "The world can change in a minute, and at the same time remain unchanged" (165). There have been many times in my life...just moments, that changed my whole world. I had someone very dear to me commit suicide. He was very young. When he died my world came crashing down. I didn't know how to deal with it. This quote reminds me of that time in my life, because although he passed away, the world came turning, the days kept coming and every one, including me, had to continue our lives. Everything changed, yet nothing changed. Martha's experiences are represented by a jar of ocean water, I think my object to represent this time in my life would be a weeping willow tree. A tree is strong, grounded by a strong foundation of roots that have grown through nurturing and love. A tree's shadow provides shelter. Sometimes branches fall off or get torn off, but for the most part, a tree remains strong and bends with the wind. It weeps because of the pain that this moment caused. Even if the tree were to fall to the ground, the roots are still there, to remind us of what used to be.
(This is Julia) Well I did not read this book but I just needed to test this out.
