I LOVE this book!!!!! It is very deep and very tragic. I was happy when Abuelita got to Esperanza and her mother. Maybe you could put something about how we have overcome tragidies and about how important family is.
this book is aMAZING!!! I think that the title sybolizes to work & try hard to get rid of your problems. Like the actual title" Esperanza Rizing" might mean that... she like rose beacuse she was finally happy since most of her biggest fears and problems were gone, but there were still more to come

this book is in my opinion the best book on the list. i'd read it again a bajillion times(no time). it teaches a lot about hope and faith in others as well as yourself.
I think that the title suits the book very well because it is kind of how Esperanza is Rising from her old a little selfish, spoiled self and how she learns that she needs to work in order to survive and how there will not always be someone there to buy her food or make her dinner or farm or do anything for her.
Hey Guys & Gals!!! I want to use this for discussion about middle school level books. I will post thoughts or discussion prompts - feel free to leave a comment or to post your own question! Have fun with this - I will be moderating all that is posted.

I think that the title means that not only does her name mean 'hope', but she ends up rising up and becoming more responsible.

I also think that her "Hope" (Esperanza) is rising because she used to have hope but then it was lost and she gets her hope back again.
