THANK YOU!!!!

Dear Everyone,

I cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work you put into my surprise birthday party. I was shocked, surprised, overwhelmed and HUMBLED. It is truly a blessing to know each and every one of you. YOu each make my days so happy. From the streamers, the gi-hugic birthday card, the balloons, Eliana's fabulous cakes (not just one...TWO!) and the popcorn and napkins and soda and plates...EVERYTHING! It was so wonderful. ANd I guess I'm so old that I'm happy we didn't burn down the library with all of the candles! lol.

You made my birthday week a week I will never ever forget. THank you for being so wonderful to me!

Ms. Curran :-)

Imagine you are Bruno Richard Hauptmann, accused of murdering the son of the most famous man in America.

In a compelling, immediate voice, 12-year-old Katie Leigh Flynn takes us inside the courtroom of the most widely publicized criminal case of the 20th century: the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh's baby son. And in doing so, she reveals the real-life figures of the trial—the accused, the lawyers, the grieving parents—and the many faces of justice.

City of Ember

In the book, City of Ember, some of the characters become quite selfish when they are scared. What do you think causes us to become selfish when we become afraid? Are we really selfish people or is it a gut reaction?

Compare and contrast the problems of the teenagers in Mr. Ward’s class with those you think are going on in the lives of your classmates. How are they alike? How are they different? Tell me what you think.

Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy

When I read this book, I cried for about an hour afterwards. I even called my mom on the phone and told her the whole story, and I was STILL crying! Okay, I'm emotional, but still, I couldn't believe how people could be treated like this. In 1912, less than one hundred years ago, Malaga Island was destroyed by the people of Phippsburg because they were intolerant of other people that weren't just like them. After all this time, do you think Americans now are more accepting than in 1912? Why or why not? What lessons do we have yet to learn?
